            Aslan and Suluk stared into the hole in the ice lake beneath the moonlight, waiting for a fish to conveniently dart close enough for them to snatch out of the water. The fish weren’t fooled though. The two long manes weren’t the first tokotas to visit this lake for the Rite of Merit and so they were wise enough to keep just out of reach but within their sight.

            Aslan whined impatiently while Suluk continued to look on silently. After a half hour more, the male tokota dove in. Suluk sat back quickly, trying to avoid the splash but ended up wet anyway. She remained in her spot, peeking over the hole for Aslan to return. When he finally did he had a fish in his mouth. He dropped the fish at the edge and looked to their handlers proudly. In this brief moment, the fish took advantage of the distraction and flopped back into the water. Aslan looked around, alarmed by the sudden sound before realizing that the fish was gone. With a huff, he disappeared into the hole again.

            Suluk dove after him this time. The two dove deep chasing after a small group of fish. Aslan made it a point to only seek out the one he’d captured earlier. Once he had it, he made his way back to the top leaving Suluk chasing the fish below.
